waiting for the day when i can add the excellent rendering of "The Alabaster Box" singing out Marie Magdalen's heart, then as now.
She was the sister of Lazarus, Jesus' friend, and Martha's, the other sister. John 11.
Why does Matthew in his rendering of the Gospel not quite simply say so? The ground text of Matthew dates as the earliest during the lives of "the occular witnesses". Because the "jews" wanted to kill Jesus and Lazarus, the living proof of God's disposition twd all men, resurrected tho' in his case he did need to die as all men do, before getting to his final destination.
John wrote some thirty years later. The men who had decided to kill could no longer do so. They had gone from the face of the earth, and from the heavenlies, _forever.
I understand that the communists of the Soviet era, and Madame Blawatski like characters, developed different ideas of the meaning of Lazarus' life. But then these people have always been more than a little strange.
They want to redesign creation, _think that they might make a better job of it, than the Eternal One.
May they be shorter lasting than previous such experiments,
Hear ! Lord Jesus, "Control them," and for t'others "Hold them, Father" smilingly smiling
