Why do you think people fear personal evangelism?

People who fear evangelism fall into several categories. Firstly, there are church goers who are not 'born again' or 'spirit filled'. They will be moved by the world's consensus - that churches/Christians are acceptable if they contribute to the community without offending anyone or seek to 'convert' them. Secondly, there are 'born again' Christians who have become so immersed in the ways of the world that they prefer a quiet life, having lost a passion for the multitudes 'in the valley of decision'. Within this group there are those (even pastors, elders, deacons, stewards etc) who cling to their social standing and fear loss of face or criticism. Where there is a lack of clear discipleship training and Bible teaching and a lack of practical application by the leaders, then those in the congregation will be discouraged and - unless they have a strong private walk with the Lord - will become weak and fearful!

I agree Ian. What should evangelists do to change this. Remembering the fact that evangelists are often misunderstood.

Charles Finney (the great 19th century evangelist) would fast and pray before beginning an evangelistic outreach and his partner (Father Nash) would pray against opposition, pray for openings and pray for God to use Charles mightily! Only God can open doors. Even Charles' most virulent opponents (including ring-leaders) would eventually repent and submit to God's perfect plan for their lives, their congregations and their communities. Some became his strongest supporters. One thing I note here is that this successful evangelist (250,000 received Christ during his ministry) had a partner, just as Paul had Barnabus (and Silas)!

My favourite outreach is based in the Rhondda Valley. It is Sporting Marvels (in its 11th year) and it has thousands of prayer warriors covering houses, churches and schools in the valley. My focus is Tonypandy Community College.  ..........young Christians ministering on a daily basis in the valley's schools and discipling young people). Faith, teamwork and prayer coupled with the holiness and the passion of the workers (who have come through from the valley's schools and are amazing role models for the children and young people that they minister. Amazing answers to prayer just motivate prayer warriors and supporters to keep praying and giving. PRAISE OUR AMAZING GOD!!!

There is also the issue of self forgetfulness, which the Apostle Paul lived out. If we value self then we will be concerned about what other people think of us and that attitude will dilute our ability

1 Samuel 7. 14 _I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. Somehow, most of us do realise that though the giving and receiving of the Gospel is (must be) free, without incurring payments to the 'kind giver,' the world or the spirit of the world has a tendency to demand a price, if it was only to check the reality of the thing we say we have. Most of us, particularly in our unconverted state of mind are not particularly keen to attract undue attention, and 'prefer the darkness to the light.' So yes, i do agree with vee moss and Ian Whitwood. There is a saying in Proverbs that in one translation goes something like this: _ A good name is more important than the oil. As the oil to me signifies "the oil of gladness" that we may and do have in Jesus when we are born again from the Spirit, recognizing the Father, His Father as our Father. I cannot agree with that particular translation choice. For the Oil that we have in Jesus, Like Mary Magdalen is beyond mere 'religion'. Just remember what Jesus said about this to Simon 'the Leper' who had just returned to his house after having been healed from his condition. I do think he did get the message: she loved much because she just knew a big debt had been cancelled, and nothing in this world could have taken that away from her off her shoulders.
